Alumni-driven project brings together over 100 voices
This past February, more than 100 Millikin University Choir alumni of all eras united to see and hear themselves participate in a virtual rendition of "Lord Make us Instruments of Your Peace."
This beautiful alumni-driven project began in mid-January with a few University Choir alumni reaching out with an idea to sing a virtual choral piece with their fellow Millikin graduates. Millikin's Alumni & Development Office helped to spread the word to all past members, sharing sheet music and uploading information.
As Dr. Brad Holmes, director of choir programs at Millikin, relayed after seeing the alumni choir perform virtually, "That so many participated in something that was really just a part of four year's programming is amazing. I think those who had sung it before recognized the need for it in our current cultural climate. They hatched the idea and did it entirely on their own. It was an amazing event."
Dr. Holmes added, "We used 'Lord Make us Instruments of Your Peace' on tour to the Dominican Republic/Haiti in 1997. On Sept. 11, 2001, I handed it to the choir at our 12 noon rehearsal and we sang it that night for the campus-wide candlelight vigil. We used it again for the Alumni Choir tour to England in May 2002. Finally, it made its way into our 2015 tour program."
Thank you to the Millikin alumni who coordinated and brought this beautiful project to fruition.
