In light of Millikin University recently being named among the nation's best colleges and universities by Forbes in its ninth annual Top Colleges in America ranking, Millikin Provost Dr. Jeff Aper spoke with the Taylorville Daily News on July 12 about the rankings, and why the Forbes ranking is different than other college rankings.
"The Forbes rankings are based on asking students what they got out of their college experience," Dr. Aper said. "Current students and graduates of Millikin are telling a third party about the good experiences and that's really meaningful."
Dr. Aper also weighed in on what he feels sets Millikin University apart from other universities in the country.
"One of the reasons this stands out for us is because we follow a philosophy called Performance Learning where every student has a chance to engage in the professional work of their discipline," Dr. Aper says. "Millikin students are very well prepared to go into graduate school or the world of work."
Millikin is one of 26 colleges from Illinois to make Forbes' national ranking of 660 institutions. The ranking is based on numerous factors that evaluate student satisfaction, post-graduate success, student success in garnering nationally competitive awards, student debt and graduation rates.
