It was announced on April 25 that Dr. Najiba Benabess would take over as dean of Millikin University's Tabor School of Business succeeding Dr. J. Mark Munoz, Millikin professor of management and international business, who served as interim dean during the search process.

Dr. Benabess emerged from a very strong pool of candidates from across the United States as a leader with substantial ability, dedication and vision.

"In addition to her experience and excellence as a teacher and scholar, Dr. Benabess is an experienced academic leader," said Millikin President Dr. Patrick E. White. "Of particular note for Millikin, at her previous institution, Dr. Benabess developed new programs in entrepreneurship and an interdisciplinary program in international business, while being very active in economic development in her community, state and region. I look forward to seeing her take a leadership role at the University and in the surrounding Decatur community. Tabor School of Business is poised to grow and develop further under her leadership."

Dr. Benabess was previously the director of the School of Business and Management within the College of Professional Schools at Norwich University in Northfield, Vt. She came to Norwich University in 2007 as an assistant professor teaching a variety of courses in microeconomics, macroeconomics, international economics and quantitative methods.

"We are very excited about all that she will bring to the Tabor School of Business, Millikin University and the greater Decatur community in helping us advance as the national leader in Performance Learning, and as a model for innovative undergraduate teaching," said Millikin Provost Dr. Jeffery P. Aper.

Her areas of expertise include industrial organization and international economics. She is a strong proponent of service learning, entrepreneurship and global engagement, and she strives to create partnerships across the academic and business communities.

"I'm so excited about this position because of the faculty, students, alumni and community partners," Dr. Benabess says. "The faculty are very exceptional in a sense that they do way more than what is expected of them. The students bring so much energy, passion and talent to Millikin University, and I'm very impressed with the alumni and community partnerships that have been established at Millikin and the Tabor School of Business."

Dr. Benabess earned a Master of Arts in Economics from Western Illinois University and a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

"Millikin is a community where educators rise beyond expectations and students are the priority," said Dr. Benabess. "My vision for the Tabor School of Business is to produce graduates who are ready to work and lead."
