Chicago native Anthony Norman, a 2015 Millikin University musical theatre graduate, is taking part in the national tour of "Newsies" as a cast member. The Tony Award-winning Broadway show is making its way to Chicago and in a recent interview with Broadwayworld.com, Norman shared his thoughts on the experience.
"Just be ready to have your mind blown and your heart and gut wrenched. The choreography is the biggest spectacle but the story is just as amazing," Norman says. "Senior year of college I was going back and forth from school to Chicago auditioning. I met tons of people, booked a few local shows, and found a phenomenal talent agency. Then, I auditioned in New York for the tour, did some callbacks, and landed my first equity Broadway gig."
In the Fall of 2014, Norman performed alongside fellow Millikin graduate Sierra Boggess '04 in her benefit concert for Millikin University, "Part of Our World." In the Winter of 2015, Norman was a featured performer in a cabaret featuring the collective works of Andrew Lippa.
"I've really become accustomed to living on a tour. I'm someone that just loves to go-go-go, so this is pretty ideal for me," Norman says. "I savor the chances I get to explore and some of the cool locations we visit."
Norman has worked with Porchlight Music Theatre, Davenport's Piano Bar and Cabaret, Rocky Mountain Repertory Theatre and Great Plains Theatre. He also plays a variety of instruments, such as guitar, saxophone, flute, clarinet, piano, bass, accordion and basic percussion.
