Application deadline set for May 1, 2022

Millikin University's Tabor School of Business is accepting applications for its graduate certificate program in Data Analytics and Business Intelligence. Initially launched in May 2021, the certificate program's second cohort begins in May 2022.

In today's business world, analytics is a buzzword that has become a new label for evidence-based management. Data is everywhere and there is an urgent need to collect and preserve it. Data serves as an important factor for improving business, decision making and providing an edge over competitors. Data Analytics is focused on why an event happened and what will happen in the future.

Millikin University's Data Analytics and Business Intelligence graduate certificate will prepare students to start processing data that organizations produce and turn it into usable information, using the latest statistical and modeling tools to serve stakeholders' interests.

Students can complete the certificate program in one year starting at the end of May 2022. Classes will be held in person, including evening classes that will meet once a week.

Suitable for any industry, the graduate certificate is designed for those who wish to learn how to use data to solve complex and sophisticated problems to give their business a competitive advantage.

The program will provide students with the skills necessary to apply and use data strategically; design tools that assist in making high value, high stake decisions; and learn to combine instinct and experience with the science of data and analytics.

"Organizations are amassing data from a variety of sources at an increasing rate. As a result, organizations are challenged with making sense of that data to find efficiencies or revenue opportunities. This new graduate certificate in Data Analytics and Business Intelligence allows leaders in varying industries the ability to upgrade their skills in practical ways in a short amount of time. The knowledge, skills and tools learned through this new certificate program will translate directly to their work and provide immediate value to their careers and their organizations," said RJ Podeschi, dean of the Tabor School of Business.

Students pursuing Millikin's certificate in Data Analytics and Business Intelligence will complete courses on the following subjects:

  • Business Analytics
  • Data Mining
  • Data Visualization & Application
  • Business Forecasting & Planning

In addition to small class sizes that build teamwork and support networking opportunities, the certificate program will be taught by faculty members with executive C-suite knowledge.

"You cannot manage what you cannot measure and when you measure, you get data. Being able to identify sources of data, interpret the data, make decisions in reference to the data and being able to communicate these decisions to others through the use of data is a skillset in high demand in a multitude of industries," said Frank Byers, president and CEO of AgriSphere, LLC, who serves as an adjunct faculty member for Millikin's Data Analytics and Business Intelligence graduate certificate program.

Byers added, "The more 'systems' that are being deployed means more data is being collected and in need of analysis by business leaders. Data-related skills in terms of analytics, mining and visualization combined with business management acumen is a desirable combination in the current and future workforce."

The application deadline for the Data Analytics and Business Intelligence graduate certificate program is May 1, 2022. To apply online or for more information about the certificate program, please visit millikin.edu/mba or call 217.424.3503.
