Millikin University's Football program is beginning preparation for the 2016 season. As training camp begins in August, new Head Coach Dan Gritti made it a goal to get the Millikin name out there by visiting nearly every football-playing high school in the state of Illinois and meeting with coaches and players face-to-face.
"We wanted to make sure everyone knew Millikin had made a commitment," Gritti said. "We're scouting the country right now. If they are interested in coming to Millikin, we're going to make a pitch for them."
Millikin could have at least 71 new players when it takes the field for its first practice on Aug. 11. The new players include a handful of transfers, some from Division II and Division I schools.
Among the returning players include sophomore quarterback Nicco Stepina who threw for 1,613 yards while completing 59.6 percent of his passes, and junior Cameron Mammen who hauled in 30 catches a year ago.
Millikin opens the season at Greenville College on Sept. 3. The first home game will be Sept. 10 against Rose-Hulman.
