Faculty and students from Millikin University's School of Education hosted its annual Tomorrow's Teachers Conference on Monday, Nov. 7, to shared their ideas and concepts with future educators.
The conference is part of a "grow our own" initiative, to find high school students interested in teaching careers and provide them with the encouragement and information to help them choose a college, successfully complete college, and hopefully return to Decatur, Ill., to teach. It's one of many partnerships Millikin University has formed with Decatur Public Schools.
"We have monthly meetings with the students," said Dr. Christie Magoulias, director of the School of Education at Millikin University. "I do a lesson with them and spend an hour with them and touch on different concepts and ideas from different courses that we would teach them in the program."
Millikin hosted an Education Spotlight Visit Day on Nov. 7 for students interested in becoming outstanding teachers and educators. During the Education Spotlight Day, students learned more about academic programs or internship and co-teaching opportunities, toured program facilities, sat in on classes and spoke with current students and faculty.
