Last fall, students from Millikin University's Tabor School of Business traveled to Denmark to compete in an innovation competition titled "Experts in Teams," hosted by the Business Academy Aarhus. More than 400 students participated in the competition including six Millikin students.

The students were divided into a number of "villages" consisting of 30 students, which were then divided into different teams made up of five to six students. Each team consisted of students from different institutions. The teams had to come up with sustainability solutions for some of Denmark's largest companies.

The winning team from the competition included Millikin student Estefano Martinez, a sophomore business major from Zionsville, Ind. Martinez's team won first prize for their concept for a sustainable activity for the team-building company CoastZone.

Students from countries such as Slovakia, Poland, Denmark and Sweden took part in the competition.

"You're working with a team and all of a sudden you have this whole paradigm shift, and I think that's what Millikin strives for is democratic citizenship in a global environment," said Haley Hogenkamp, a senior business management major from Celina, Ohio. "Being able to work with people from all over the world and have that experience shows that you are adaptable and can work in a team."

Hogenkamp's team developed a three-step process involving conferences and integrated recording events to measure progress. Hear more from the students about their experiences in Denmark in the following video.
