Millikin University's School of Theatre and Dance will perform Theresa Rebeck's "Mauritius" March 23-26 in the Student Programming and Entertainment Center (SPEC), located at 1099 W. Wood St. in Decatur, Ill.

The story is about two sisters after their mother passes away. The siblings battle over an old stamp collection they found among the family possessions. If the stamps are real, they are worth millions. The conversations and battles revolve around to whom it belongs. The show is directed by Lori Bales, associate professor of theatre and dance at Millikin.

"I was drawn to the play because of the questions," Bales said in a recent interview with the Herald & Review. "It's about what people will do to get what they want."

Olivia Irmiter, a sophomore theatre major from Chicago, Ill., describes the show as a psychological thriller with humorous moments.

"You get to know similarities between the two characters," Irmiter said. "But people are tricky."

There are five actors in the cast with limited scenery and stage details.

"The focus is on the acting and the skills," Bales said. "The students provided their own costumes and props."

In this gripping tale, a seemingly simple sale becomes dangerous when all the characters are willing to do anything to claim the rare find as their own.
