Millikin University student Kate Gebultowicz is a senior chemistry major with an emphasis in research and pre-pharmacy.

The Glenview, Ill., native has spent the past year working on her senior research which focuses on solid phase peptide synthesis. As part of her research Gebultowicz uses three amino acids to form a peptide. She tests the peptide to see if can penetrate a cancer cell.

"It's me forming a peptide and then using it as an application to cancer," said Gebultowicz. "It's a great opportunity because it covers biochemistry and organic chemistry, and I can put both of those into my research."

Gebultowicz says she's grown as a student from her freshman year and the faculty at Millikin have played an important role during that time period.

"The faculty have taken the time to sit down with the entire class to help us and provide the best experience," said Gebultowicz.

Gebultowicz sees herself working in a hospital one day and working with patients one-on-one. After graduation she will be attending pharmacy school at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

"I've been really satisfied with all the learning experiences that the Millikin Chemistry Department has provided for me," said Gebultowicz.
