Dove Inc. program to work with Decatur neighborhoods
Decatur-based nonprofit organization Dove Inc. restarted a community services program in June 2018 that works closely with local neighborhood groups and connects residents with social services.
The nonprofit organization's board decided to bring back the program to keep a strong connection with the community and neighborhood groups, each of which have individual needs.
The program is overseen by Dove Community Engagement Coordinator Sattin Schreiner, a recent Millikin University graduate who earned a bachelor's degree in theatre back in May 2018.
Originally from Indianapolis, Ind., Schreiner is looking forward to the outreach and people-focused work, and also hopes to attract more young people to become active in the community.
"That's a personal goal of mine," Schreiner said in a recent interview with the Herald & Review. "I would love to see more of my age or my generation be more involved in the Decatur community and neighborhood organizations as well."
Schreiner will also be part of organizing National Night Out, an annual event that takes place in communities across the country to encourage strong neighborhoods and crime prevention.
"She has lots of energy," said Sue Lawson, president of the Coalition of Neighborhood Organizations, "I'm thrilled to have someone back to help because some of the neighborhoods are just starting to be revitalized."
