Millikin Exercise Science and Sport

Millikin University Exercise Science and Sport students held a free health workshop in Decatur, Ill., on May 5. Adults from the local community had their health assessed by the Exercise Science and Sport students who were being judged on their performance by Dr. Tina Cloney, chair of Millikin's Department of Exercise Science and Sport.

The event was designed to ready the students for what they may be doing in their careers. Guests were assessed based on family health, body mass index, blood pressure, waist circumference and lifestyle. As guests visited each station, the Millikin student running the station explained what each score meant and what that meant to their health.

Each Millikin student gave a specific presentation related to the health field which was a comprehensive overview of the main health issues faced by adults in Macon County and the United States as a whole: cardiovascular disease, obesity, cancer, diabetes, alcohol, Alzheimer's disease and physical activity.

Millikin students that participated included Zach Cronister, a senior health, fitness and recreation major from Pleasant Plains, Ill.; Raquel Rodriguez, a junior health, fitness and recreation major from Oblong, Ill.; and Megan Kushner, a junior athletic training major from Homer Glen, Ill.
