Krista Scott, a senior mathematics actuary science major from St. Louis, Mo., says the long days and nights dedicated to studying and working will pay off when she walks across the stage to receive her diploma on Sunday, May 22 during Millikin's traditional undergraduate commencement ceremony.

Scott is a first generation college student in her family. She grew up in the St. Louis area and attended Ritenour High School.

"Being a first generation college student you don't know a lot about college," said Scott. "The staff at Millikin really broke it down to where I really understood things in terms of loans, careers, applying and mock interviews. They really helped me with that."

Scott will be the only woman and minority graduating from the Mathematics Department on May 22. She has interviewed with companies like Liberty Mutual and is also interviewing for companies on the East Coast like Chubb and Ace Group insurance.

"For a lot of us first generation college students, we can be too prideful and we don't want to ask for help," said Scott. "Millikin wants to help students like us, so ask for help and ask questions and don't give up. No matter how far you think you are, you're really close."
