Millikin University will host a number of events throughout March to celebrate Women's History Month.
Women's History Month traces its beginning to the first International Women's Day in 1911. Congress passed a resolution recognizing Women's History Week in 1981, which was extended to an entire month in 1987 to recognize the diverse and historic accomplishments of women that have shaped events throughout history.
Millikin's celebration of Women's History Month includes the following events.
Speak Like a Girl (Sponsored by the University Center Board)
Monday, March 7
7 p.m., Lower Richards Treat University Center
Speak Like a Girl discusses topics of domestic violence, social justice and women's empowerment through the art of poetry and spoken word. For more information, visit speaklikeagirl.com.
Women in Leadership Panel (Sponsored by Sister Circle)
Tuesday, March 8
6 p.m., Lower Richards Treat University Center
Sister Circle will be sponsoring a panel to discuss success, barriers and personal narratives of women leaders in the local community. There will also be a fashion show of proper attire for various work settings.
Inclusion and Student Engagement Dialog Series
Friday, March 11
12 noon, Richards Treat University Center, Wood Room
Join the Office of Inclusion and Student Engagement for its monthly dialog series to discuss influential women in history and their perceived role in society.
Women's Empowerment Workshop
Wednesday, March 16
5 p.m., Richards Treat University Center, Lindsay Schaub Room
Do you want to gain more confidence as a woman leader on campus? This workshop will focus on confidence boosting, women's empowerment and how to maximize your efforts as a woman to accomplish your goals.
Women's Appreciation Reception

4:30 p.m., Lower Richards Treat University Center
In recognition of Women's History Month, the Office of Inclusion and Student Engagement is hosting a reception to honor all women faculty and staff. The reception will begin at 4:30 p.m. and the formal program will begin at 5:15 p.m.
